A major search operation is ongoing to locate a teenage boy who was last seen on a beach in Llandudno on Saturday (10 May).
Athrun, aged 16, was last seen at around 2pm on Saturday on West Shore Beach in Llandudno, close to the boating lake and playpark.
Officers from North Wales Police – including search and drone team officers, along with an underwater search unit and the Coastguard – have resumed their search in and around the West Shore area.
Athrun, from South Gloucestershire, was on holiday in Llandudno.
He is described as having short dark hair, being around 6ft tall and of slim build, and was wearing blue and white patterned swim shorts and “may walk with an unusual gait”.
North Wales Police said it is treating the investigation as a high-risk missing person enquiry and is appealing for photos and dashcam footage from the area.
Extensive searches have been taking place across land, water and air, with specialist search officers from several agencies including the Coastguard, National Police Air Service and Search and Rescue Dogs Association.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Kneale, of North Wales Police, said: “I would ask the public to remain vigilant in and around the Llandudno area. We would like to thank people for their assistance with the searches, but we would appeal for members of the public not to put themselves at risk.
“Significant areas of Llandudno have already been searched, and these searches continue. Officers continue to support Athrun’s family while attempts to locate him continue.
“I would ask that anyone with dashcam footage in the vicinity of West Shore between 12pm and 6pm reviews it to check for any sightings of Athrun.
“Also, if you took any photographs in the West Shore area of Llandudno (on Saturday), please can you let us know. As previously described, he was last seen wearing just blue swimming shorts, with no top.”
Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan, of North Wales Police, said: “Significant areas of Llandudno have already been searched. Our focus today (Monday) is water-based searches with colleagues from the Joint Underwater Search Team and the Coastguard.
“We continue to appeal to anybody who may have been in the West Shore area of Llandudno on Saturday afternoon.
“We’re particularly keen on speaking to anybody who may have taken photographs – this may have been a selfie or family photographs – where they may have captured Athrun and his family in the background. I would appeal to them to contact us as soon as possible. We’re also asking anybody who may have been travelling along West Shore on Saturday afternoon and who may have dashcam footage to please get in touch.
“We’d like to thank all those who have already made contact to assist with our ongoing investigation and all those who have offered their assistance with the searches. We would like to ask the public to refrain from attending the area to allow our specialist resources to continue with the search efforts.
“We continue to urge anybody who may have information to contact us immediately.”
