Singing for Denmark in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 2025 is pop star and dance music enthusiast Sissal.
The 30-year-old, whose full name is Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, will be representing the country in the final of this year’s competition which takes place in the Swiss city of Basel on Saturday night.
Sissal was selected to represent Denmark after she won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Denmark’s Eurovision selection contest. She then made it through to the final after qualifying in the second semi-final on Thursday night.
Currently living in Copenhagen, Sissal is originally from Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, becoming the second Faroese artist to represent Denmark in the Eurovision after Reiley did so in 2023.
Performing on stage for the first time when she was just 10-years-old, Sissal has been perfecting her craft as a musician and live performer since making the move to Denmark.
Looking to inspire her fans to be true to themselves and embrace their uniqueness, Sissal’s music has become popular through her powerful voice and candid lyrics.
Inspired by Nordic electropop artists such as Dagny and Robyn, Sissa is a huge fan of the Eurovision, calling it a world that she feels ‘right at home in’.
After winning Nósa Barnaprix as a child, Sissal went on to win Ársins Songrødd in 2010. On top of her lofty music ambitions, Sissa is training to be a teacher and is a mother of two daughters.
Despite her busy professional and home life, Sissal released her debut EP Hear Me Now in February. Her Eurovision track Hallucination is one of the most popular of this year’s batch, boasting nearly 4 million streams on Spotify.
Denmark are heading into the event with an outside chance of pulling off an upset, with their odds of winning 150/1 ahead of the show, according to bookies Ladbrokes.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2025 final takes place on Saturday, May 17. It will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer with Graham Norton hosting and commentating for UK viewers. On BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Scott Mills and Rylan will be leading the commentary. Coverage across the BBC will start at 8pm.
