Villarreal handed Barcelona their first league defeat of 2025, coming from behind to confirm fifth place and their participation in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Yellow Submarine took the lead early, Ayoze Perez rounding off a swift counter. But on 38 minutes, Lamine Yamal equalised with a signature finish, curled low inside the far corner, then Fermin Lopez put Barca ahead with a terrific strike on the cusp of half-time.
From there, it seemed unlikely the champions could be beaten, but five minutes after the break, Santi Comesana’s smart finish drew them level, then with 10 to go, Tajon Buchanan kept his cool at the far post to secure a famous victory.
