KIERAN TIERNEY bowed out as a winner as he made his final Arsenal outing at The Emirates in the London side’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend.
The popular defender, of course, is heading back to first love Celtic in the summer after penning a pre-contract in February.
Tierney made a cameo appearance as he came on as a substitute for Leandro Trossard and was cheered loudly by the home fans as he entered the pitch for the last time.
FINAL BOW…Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney replaces Leandro Trossard as he says farewell to The Emirates in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United.
The 27-year-old Scotland international left-back joined the Gunners in a-then record £25million switch in August 2019, but was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers when his contract was due to expire next month.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta applauded the efforts of the fans’ favourite and, speaking to the media, said: “With Kieran, he had to come back and settle in the team again after four months out. He’s been really good with the group.
“He has contributed in every possible way to help us and I’m very grateful for that.”
Rodgers has already stated he has been in touch with the player and revealed he was “champing at the bit” to get back to Parkhead and get down to work.
It’s unsure if Tierney will be involved when the London club play their final Premier League game of the season at Southampton on Sunday.
Celtic, of course, have a Scottish Cup Final date with Aberdeen at Hampden 24 hours earlier.
