Australian punk outfit Amyl and the Sniffers hit The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival with a humungous set, proving that the band are unrivalled live performers.
Performing for a Saturday night afternoon crowd that was missing the likes of Kneecap and John Fogerty to catch the punk-rock set from the start, Amyl & The Sniffers took no time proving that the large crowd in attendance were exactly in the right place.
Despite the song being over a year old, ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ was the first single from their 2024 album, Cartoon Darkness, and it still remains the most widely celebrated. Something in the simplistic, yet bold and devilish guitar riffs, and Amy’s familiar biting voice, cements it as a track that will never fail to deliver.
During the set, Taylor commented, “I wanna say, its such a crazy time to be alive right now, its so fucking weird, the left and the right politicians don’t believe in anything at all between the two of them. They believe in nothing. I’m thinking about the people in Palestine. All our governments — we’re from Australia — they’re doing jack shit, and I know yourds are doing jack shit.”
The rage was full-throttle, but also refined. When Far Out spoke to Taylor and her bandmates about their music, she revealed that these periods of anger aren’t directed at anyone in particular and more the faceless abyss of the internet. There is a hopelessness enveloped in the rage, as the problem is too big to stick a name on, yet it still needs to be acknowledged.
After releasing their new fourteen-track visual album Never Enough, hard-rockers Turnstile, who will also hit Glastonbury on Sunday, announced that Amyl and the Sniffers will join them on several dates of their massive US tour.
Friday night at Glastonbury saw The 1975 headline the Pyramid Stage and Loyle Carner headline the Other Stage. Later on Saturday night, Charli XCX and Neil Young will compete for a crowd, while on Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo will close the weekend.
