Brock Lesnar Avenges Loss to Frank Mir On This Day in 2009

It’s been 16 years since UFC 100, when Brock Lesnar capped off the milestone event with a statement win. Lesnar successfully retained his heavyweight title against Frank Mir in the main event of a stacked card.

Lesnar vs. Mir drew plenty of interest. The bout was a title unification bout, with Mir entering as the interim heavyweight champion after defeating Minotauro Nogueira. Lesnar, a former WWE superstar-turned-UFC champion, sought retribution for his lone career loss.

Lesnar imposed his will on Mir, using his wrestling background to dictate the pace of the fight. He didn’t make the same mistakes from their first bout. This time,  maintained control top control and landed vicious ground-and-pound en route to a 2nd round TKO win.

After the fight, Lesnar confronted Mir over his comments leading up to the fight. He also targeted Bud Light and UFC fans in attendance.

“Keep [booing], I love it. [Mir] had a horseshoe up his [expletive]. I told him that a year ago. I pulled that [expletive] out and beat him over the head with it,” Lesnar told Joe Rogan during his post-fight interview. “I’m going to go home tonight. I’m gonna drink a Coors Light because Bud Light won’t pay me nothing.”

Lesnar Apologized for UFC 100 Post-Fight Interview

Lesnar entered the UFC 100 post-fight press conference with a more somber tone than his octagon performance. He admitted to letting emotions get the best of him and  apologized for his comments.

Lesnar admitted to being a sore loser and was determined to avenge his only loss. He explained his WWE experience and his passionate promo being an extension of that environment. He then emphasized that he meant no harm and was simply feeding off the atmosphere.

“I went in the entertainment business for a while and I guess there’s still a little bit of that…You guys ask me all the time, is there anything that I can drag over from WWE? And I guess you seen a little bit tonight,” Lesnar said during the UFC 100 post-fight press conference. “I apologize to Bud Light. I’m not biased, I drink any beer and tonight, I’m drinking Bud Light all night.”

Lesnar added, “I have nothing against Frank. The only thing that I had against Frank was that he beat me. We both talked a lot of crap and in the end, I was just amped up.”

Mir Opens Up About Added Pressure Fighting Lesnar

Mir once opened up the added pressure he felt fighting Lesnar at UFC 81.

Mir knew about Lesnar’s wrestling achievements and discussed it during his appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet. He recalled another fighter telling him their bout was MMA vs. pro wrestling, which added pressure.

“One of the other fighters on the card goes, ‘Hey, man, you gotta do this. It’s MMA versus pro wrestling,” Mir told host Chris Van Vliet. “That actually put a lot of pressure on me because I’m sitting there going, ‘People are going to think that’s he’s just a pro wrestler?’ Like, no. Give me anybody else, most of the other pro wrestlers don’t have a background in combat.”
