Horror fans are only just discovering a “very underrated” film featuring a Harry Potter star, which will be available to stream for free.
Daniel Radcliffe, widely known for his role as boy wizard Harry Potter, stars in the horror film Horns, which fans have branded an “underdog movie”. Playing Ig Perish, the film follows him as he is blamed for the murder of his girlfriend.
But after waking up one morning with a pair of horns on his head and supernatural powers, he sets out to find the real killer. Released in 2014, the film, directed by Alexandre Aja, received mixed reviews at the time.
As well as Daniel Radcliffe, fans may also recognise pop megastar Sabrina Carpenter, who plays a young Merrin Williams at 13. Juno Temple also plays adult Merrin, and Max Minghella plays Lee Tourneau.
A synopsis on IMDB reads: “After Iggy’s long-time girlfriend is murdered and the whole town agrees he is the killer, he awakens one morning with horns and the townspeople soon confess their sins. Once knowing the sins of the people, he is facing the true killer of his beloved girlfriend.”
Now, the horror comedy film is now set to stream completely for free on Pluto TV. Fans can watch the “brilliant” adaptation from next Monday (July 21).
And despite its initial mixed reviews, the film has garnered high praise from viewers. One fan wrote: “Wow give this a chance, it’s really good, just take some time to understand it, very underrated.”
Another said: “This was an underdog movie. It had aspects of horror, fantasy and drama. The psychological suspense really brings this film into a different category. Very good movie.”
A third added: “I don’t understand the low critic and audience ratings for this film. It’s genuinely a brilliant story cleverly adapted from the novel and succeeds in taking the viewer through a disturbing emotional journey with a fantastic finale! An absolutely original and exciting film with a great performance from Daniel Radcliffe, believe it or not.”
A fourth commented: “Much better than the critics would have you believe. Solid and entertaining.”
The film Horns is based on a novel of the same name written by Joe Hill. After being published in 2010, the film adaptation was released in 2014 and “explores themes of guilt, revenge and transformation.”
Branded a “favourite” amongst fans, the book was said to be “dark and mysterious” as fans say the film adaptation “has it all”, as one person added: “Wow, I’ve watched a lot of movies in my 69 years on this planet lol I have to tell you I was glued to my seat watching this movie.”
Horns is available to stream on Pluto TV from July 21.
