‘He looks tailor-made for this specialist distance’ – Harry Wilson with his tips for every race on day one of Glorious Goodwood

Harry Wilson returns with his advice for all eight races on day one of Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday

1.20 Goodwood
Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap, 1m2f

Harry’s tip: Defiance

Things didn’t go to plan for Defiance last year, but he shaped as though he was back on track with a staying-on fourth from the rear in a handicap on Oaks day at Epsom. That effort can be marked up, given the bias towards prominent racers that day, and he gets to run off the same mark here. A big step forward is expected.

Jky: Silvestre De Sousa Tnr: Roger Varian

1.55 Goodwood
Coral Vintage Stakes (Group 2), 7f

Harry’s tip: Andab

Andab has had all three starts at six furlongs, easily beating a couple of subsequent winners on his debut and finishing a close third behind potential superstar Albert Einstein in May before coming home in fourth in the Coventry. This brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Victoria Road stayed on well last time and could find even more improvement now upped in trip.

Jky: Dylan Browne McMonagle Tnr: Joseph Patrick O’Brien

2.30 Goodwood
HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes (Group 2), 7f

Harry’s tip: Jonquil

It’s easy to forgive Jonquil’s Commonwealth Cup disappointment last time, as sprinting on quick ground didn’t suit. He’d previously shown high-class form in going down by a neck to Henri Matisse in the French 2,000 Guineas, a race that was won in a good time and the form of which has been franked since. He looks tailor-made for this specialist distance and is open to even more improvement after just five starts.

Jky: Oisin Murphy Tnr: Andrew Balding

3.05 Goodwood
Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup (Group 1), 2m

Harry’s tip: Scandinavia

Illinois is solid, but his three-year-old stablemate Scandinavia is preferred after romping home by eight and a half lengths in the Bahrain Trophy. He won that contest in a good time, producing a fast finishing sectional, and promises to be even better suited to this longer trip.

Jky: Wayne Lordan Tnr: A P O’Brien

3.45 Goodwood
Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap, 5f

Harry’s tip: Jakajaro

Jakajaro has shaped well on his last two starts, finishing a close fifth from the front at Newcastle before looking unlucky not to finish closer in an Ascot handicap last time, as he was hampered just as he was starting to challenge. He travelled notably well under hold-up tactics that day and can make amends off the same mark this time.

Jky: Jamie Spencer Tnr: Robert Cowell

4.20 Goodwood
British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes, 6f

Harry’s tip: Naval Light

Naval Light caught the eye when finishing well for second on his debut and was again noted doing his best work late on when eighth in the Norfolk last time. He can get off the mark now upped up in trip.

Jky: James Doyle Tnr: K R Burke

4.55 Goodwood
Ridgeview Fillies’ Handicap, 1m

Harry’s tip: Tundra Rose

Tundra Rose showed useful form as a juvenile, bumping into subsequent Group 3 winner Dreamy here on her debut and placing in a Listed contest either side of a comfortable novice win. She likely needed the run when facing race-fit rivals in Listed company on her return and is expected to step forward now her sights are lowered.

Jky: Rossa Ryan Tnr: David O’Meara

5.30 Goodwood
World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies’ Handicap, 6f

Harry’s tip: Dubai Treasure

Dubai Treasure has posted progressive Racing Post Ratings on her last three starts, making all twice before a good fourth at York 18 days ago when drawn wide and failing to settle. She hasn’t raced over this trip since her juvenile days, but she’s a strong traveller with good early pace and her stamina could come to the fore in a strongly run race.

Jky: Oisin Murphy Tnr: Saeed bin Suroor
