Rio Ferdinand has insisted that it is down to one exceptionally talented Manchester United star over whether or not he ends up “fulfilling” his full “potential” as a player.

Ruben Amorim and his men are two matches into their five-match pre-season tour with Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils currently in the States.

The Red Devils kicked off their pre-season campaign in Sweden and United and Leeds United played a 0-0 scoreline at the Strawberry Arena earlier this month.

Ruben Amorim’s men left Europe after United’s clash with Leeds United and the Red Devils began the first of their three matches in the United States on the weekend.

United beat West Ham 2-1 in their Premier League Summer Series match on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice.

Following United’s first pre-season win against West Ham in New Jersey, the Red Devils are now set to continue their pre-season tour of the US on Thursday.

Rio Ferdinand asked about Leny Yoro’s development at Man Utd after the player’s first full season at Old Trafford

Leny Yoro has already established himself as a key Manchester United first-team player at Old Trafford under Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 19-year-old Frenchman arrived at United last summer during Erik ten Hag’s reign and missed the opening months of the 2024-25 campaign due to injury.

However, Leny Yoro bounced back from his 2024 pre-season injury and returned for the Red Devils after former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager.

Yoro impressed during the 2024-25 Premier League season at Old Trafford and the Red Devils centre-back effortlessly slotted into Amorim’s tactical system for United.

Rio Ferdinand has been part of the pre-season tour of the United States and the United legend waxed lyrical about the “prospect” of Yoro developing as a player.

“Yeah, I think he’ll grow, Leny Yoro,” he told Manchester United’s official media ahead of the 2-1 win against West Ham.

“I think he’s a fantastic talent. The prospect, the talent, isn’t a question.

“It’s about fulfilling that talent, that potential. I think he’s a serious person, works hard.

“His desire is to be better every year and keep working. And long may that continue.”

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand reveals what Ruben Amorim needs to put in place for Leny Yoro at Old Trafford

Leny Yoro had attracted interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Liverpool ahead of his stunning 2024 summer transfer to Old Trafford.

Ferdinand played a key part in convincing the former Real Madrid target to sign for United, with the Red Devils paying an initial fee of £52.18m to sign Yoro from Lille.

The 46-year-old footballer-turned-pundit suggested that United manager Amorim needs to ensure that Yoro has “stability around him” to support his progression.

“If he continues like that, he has the quality… who knows what his ceiling is gonna be and so… but I still think you need that stability around him to help him as a young player,” Ferdinand continued.

United’s next Premier League Summer Series encounter will be against Bournemouth at the Soldier Field in Chicago, with kick-off slated for 2:30am UK time on Thursday.
