Former Blues midfielder Peter Reid used some colourful language when reflecting on this season’s Merseyside derby draw
You can always rely on Peter Reid to add some unique colour to Everton storytelling. But viewers of Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning may have been shocked to hear some of the great midfielder’s expletive language come through their television speakers.
At 11 am, a poignant documentary – Goodbye Goodison – was aired on Sky Sports News ahead of Sunday’s final farewell to the famous old stadium. Everton will take on Southampton at midday in their penultimate game of the season.
The programme featured some iconic figures from the club’s past and present, in which they focus on the highs and lows that have taken place at the ground in 133 years.

In one segment, Reid looks back at the dramatic Merseyside derby with Liverpool earlier this season. James Tarkowski scored deep into injury time to earn a 2-2 draw with the Reds in the final fixture of its kind.
The goal sparked wild scenes of celebration, although fans were made to wait before it was officially confirmed after a VAR check.
Reid shared his memories of the night and what was a tense wait for the goal to be given.
“Someone said to me afterwards you had two chances,” he said. “You had celebration there [when the goal was scored] then four minutes later the celebration [after VAR].
“And I said ‘yeah, what about the f**king four minutes in between!’ Excuse my French!”
As Everton supporters reacted online to the apparent editing faux pas, after an advertising break the programme returned with an accompanying message.
“We apologise for any bad language broadcast” read the line on Sky’s trademark yellow ticker during the live broadcast.
However, by that point Everton circles on social media had long clipped up the amusing moment.
Reid will no doubt be forgiven by fans for his blue language. It’s going to be an emotional week for everyone, after all.
