Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney makes emotional Emirates farewell as Arsenal fans pay tribute to ‘Scottish prince’

KIERAN TIERNEY’S time at Arsenal hasn’t quite unfolded as many had hoped.

There were high expectations when the defender left Celtic for the Emirates back in 2019 for a fee in the region of £25m.

Injuries and stiff competition for places, however, reduced his impact and saw the Scotland ace sent out on a season-long loan to Real Sociedad.

Despite all that, Tierney has remained massively popular with many of the Arsenal fans who have come to appreciate his commitment and all-out action style.

The 27-year-old was afforded one final run-out at the Emirates this afternoon as Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Newcastle 1-0 to book their Champions League berth next season.

It was Tierney’s final involvement at home before his move back to Celtic in the summer.

And most Arsenal fans were happy to see the cult hero get his chance to say goodbye.

One Gunners fanzine reporter wrote on X:  “Cheers for Kieran Tierney who replaces Trossard as the crowd sings his name in what will surely be his final appearance in red & white here at the Emirates.

“What a loyal servant to the Arsenal cause.

“Never once moaned about his lot with injuries or lack of starts. A true team man.”

Another fan added: “For ONE LAST TIME. Thank you Kieran Tierney. Arsenal will never forget you!”

While a third said: “Thank you, Kieran Tierney!

Brendan Rodgers CONFIRMS Kieran Tierney’s Celtic return and says goodbye to Alex Valle

“You will be remembered as one of the few shining lights during a very dark chapter in Arsenal’s history.”

A fourth noted: “A final home appearance for Kieran Tierney, He always gave 100 percent.”

And another said poetically: “There is always one player who’s not a superstar just a grafter who gives his all and gets under your skin.

“Kieran Tierney is that guy and l’m gonna miss him. Farewell our Scottish Prince.”

Tierney will now return to Parkhead to work under Brendan Rodgers for a second time after Celtic confirmed in January that he had signed a pre-contract agreement.

With Greg Taylor’s future still in doubt and Jeffrey Schlupp not expected to make his loan move a permanent one, the path seems clear for Tierney to resume his previous role as the club’s first-choice left-back.
