Lukas Gage Is ‘Loving Myself’ After Chris Appleton Divorce (Exclusive)

Lukas Gage is prioritizing himself nearly a year after his divorce from ex-husband Chris Appleton.

The 29-year-old actor told PEOPLE that he is “loving myself right now” at the Los Angeles premiere of the new Prime Video series Overcompensating on May 14.

“You got to love yourself fully before you can be ready to jump in anything,” explained Gage, who guest stars on the series. “I’m doing a lot of me work and I think that’s what the show is a little about.” 

“Overcompensating is if you’re trying too hard to be something that you’re not and trying to fit into these molds, you got to just start with yourself and you got to be authentic to yourself,” he continued. “So I’m doing Lukas love time.”

When asked what that looks like for him, he shared, “Meditate, journal… Just go to the spa. I know that’s not anything, but I just sit with myself and be quiet for hours and that’s my spiritual practice.”

The update comes after Appleton filed for divorce from Gage after almost seven months of marriage in November 2023. They eventually reached a divorce settlement in June 2024.

During a March 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen mentioned that he was “surprised” to see the White Lotus star get married after dating someone for such a short amount of time. 

“I had a manic episode for six months. Those furry jackets…” Gage replied, referencing the black furry coats he and Appleton wore for their Vegas ceremony, as seen on an episode of The Kardashians that aired shortly before their split was announced.

“The fur coats was a horrible idea,” he added on WWHL.

“What happened?” Cohen questioned, mentioning that Appleton’s friend and client Kim Kardashian had officiated the wedding.

He replied, “I don’t know literally what went through my head. But we live and we learn.”

When Cohen mentioned the cheating rumors that had surfaced following the couple filing for divorce, the You actor seemed hesitant to answer but confirmed, “There was no cheating.”

The same month, Gage opened up to PEOPLE of adjusting to life after the split at the Road House premiere during SXSW in Austin, Texas, saying, “It’s been great. It’s been a year of learning, growing, changing — yeah, just constant change. Life’s always changing.”

“Everything’s great. Yeah, it’s been really good,” he added.
